Overall Satisfaction with ClickUp

We are a Marketing and Communications department that uses ClickUp as a project management system to track cross-functional projects across our 5 teams. Each team has a space and various board views to help us be organized. We use ClickUp to outline steps in the our internal workflow and track progress.

Pros

  • Customization
  • Clean design
  • Color coding

Cons

  • Customization
  • Slow load speeds
  • Poor rep support
  • Competitive pricing compared to similar tools
Marketing and Communication is the only department using ClickUp. Others are able to submit a request form without having an account/license. Collaboration capabilities are included, but it's a little tricky to configure notification settings just right. It's easy to tag someone in a comment, but sometimes people miss notifications. The personalization of notifications seems nice for the end user. Once you've been tagged in a comment string you stay on for notifications by default without needing to be tagged again. But some people turned off notifications for untagged comments and some people don't. It can get a little chaotic on large teams keeping track of how to ensure everyone sees what you want them to see. There are whiteboard spaces for brainstorming that seem similar to Miro, but I haven't personally experimented with those yet.
One simple automation I have is that a couple of task cards for my monthly reports automatically reopen with a due date for the next month after I complete it. It's nice not to have to setup a new card every month. We don't have a ton of integrations for some reason, but I would welcome that. I know our graphic designers have an integration with Ziflow to review proofs for their design, and they like it a lot.
ClickUp offers more versatility in the way you configure spaces and project boards or lists compared to other tools I've used. I like how ClickUp seems designed to keep the setup simple. We miss Workfront's conditional formatting on request forms because the number of custom fields we have feels overwhelming. In many instances, I only need to fill out 8 custom fields, but I have to see all 60, most of those only are needed for select card types.

Do you think ClickUp delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with ClickUp's feature set?

Yes

Did ClickUp live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of ClickUp go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy ClickUp again?

Yes

ClickUp seems designed to provide a simple look into project management. There's a lot of customization possible, which is a blessing and a curse. It's good to be able to do what you need, but at my company we added a busier, more complex view and a ton of custom fields taking away from the base simplicity. The ability to view lists or cards on a board is nice because different people work differently.
