Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

I am pleased that I am able to back up my entire virtual infrastructure locally, to the cloud and to a remote data center easily and without the need for "a backup person" on the team that has to check them every day. It is easy and consistent.

Pros

Cons

  • I had to compromise with a SQL server with Always-on DAG, was not easy to work with this and have application integrated backups.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
500+ VMs. It is not more than anticipated because we just wanted a solution for "everything." We leaned up our digital footprint and Veeam Data Platform just followed along without getting in the way.
  • Positive - Now FTE for backups
  • Positive - Set and forget configuration
  • Positive - Entry level techs can restore
Cost of complexity, the last solution took too much effort.
One of our storage tiers uses Wasabi and it is as easy as can be, cost effective and the seamless support for this product is what led us to use it.
We backup all file servers with granular file indexing and things work great. It allows service desk to restore files quickly.
Baracuda as well, all too complex and none as consistent.

VMware vSphere, vRealize Suite & vcloud Suite (discontinued)
I would recommend without hesitation for anyone running VMWare unless they said that they had a very small budget. I guess if you can afford VMWare now days you can also afford Veeam Data Platform. It just used to be the "expensive" solution.
